The things we enjoy learning and teaching

The First Step... Believe in Yourself.

The First Step... Believe in Yourself.

You can do it!

It takes courage to dive into a career in software development. It takes courage to do anything that’s truly rewarding, and learning to become a professional software developer is especially gratifying because of the level of difficulty and effort required. Being a computer software developer means you never stop learning, you never stop trying, and you celebrate every victory along the way to developing code that works, code that performs the task it was designed to do.

There are many routes to becoming a software developer. Some people earn a computer science degree from a university, spending years of time studying things that may or may not be relevant to actually working in the industry. Some people choose to learn on their own by studying from online resources, which is difficult for lack of guidance and direct access to help. Luckily there’s another option that combines the best attributes of a traditional college degree and self study, and that’s an immersive full-stack software developer course

For me, like many others, software development is a career change. My previous work experience was primarily in commercial aviation, flying helicopters in support of fire fighting missions, heli-skiing in Alaska, or mineral exploration for geophysical companies, yet I always had an interest in computers and wanted to learn to code. After learning some coding basics online I decided to pursue professional training and my research led me to Boise CodeWorks, which specializes in preparing students to enter the the workforce as junior software developers.

Boise CodeWorks’ 13 week full-stack immersive software developer course has been one of the most fun, challenging, and rewarding experiences of my life. It’s amazing how much you can learn and grow in a short period of time, with focused effort. CodeWorks’ proven training system combines modern, relevant, academic lectures and supporting materials combined with daily lab exercises that allows students to practice and develop skills that are essential for industry success, learning numerous coding languages, frameworks, and the underlying principles for writing clean code.

I’m happy to report that within a few days of finishing training at Boise CodeWorks I’ll be starting work as a full time junior software developer at a highly reputable international software development company. I look forward to the challenges and adventures ahead, while knowing how much I’ll miss the friendships I’ve made with classmates and staff at CodeWorks.

I’m very thankful for the training and support I received from Boise CodeWorks, they really care about their students’ success and offer all of the tools, guidance, and expertise in shaping the next generation of professional software developers. If you’re interested in becoming a software developer I encourage you to take the first step towards your new career by contacting Boise CodeWorks and learning more. Believe in yourself, know that you’ll have to work hard to achieve your goals, and know that CodeWorks will be there for you every step of the way. Good luck, you can do it!
